Could This Be Your Next Manager of Leadership Development?

A leadership development pro with over 14 years of experience spills his secrets…

Dear Housecall Pro Hiring Team,

My name is Josh Matthews-Morgan. I’m a candidate for your available position as Manager of Leadership Development.

After researching your company and this role, I’ve taken some time to put together this page so you can get to know me beyond the resume.

On this page, you can learn more about my background and experience, what I’m like as a person, and how I’ll fit in with your company culture by living out your core values.

(Plus, see proof that I’m capable of creating powerful training programs by reading stories of client transformation.)

Here’s why I believe I’m a great candidate for the job:

I’ve spent the last 14+ years building and running a coaching and training company. Our company Learn Your Brain has developed programs that have helped small business owners, managers, and leadership teams unlock their full potential.

Our life-changing programs were designed using principles from neuroscience, behavioral science, and positive psychology.

As you say in your values, People Matter. My background in psychology and brain science gives me powerful tools to help people break through limitations and grow at a deep, meaningful level.

All of our training programs were designed not just to teach new skills, but to foster sustainable transformation in people—empowering them to become more effective leaders and more fulfilled individuals.

Aside from my extensive coaching and training experience, I’m also deeply aligned with your company values.

I believe I’ll be a valuable team member who will fit in well with your company culture and hit the ground running from day one. In fact, I’ve even created a section below about how I already live out your company values.

I also have an unconventional skill that will help me succeed in this role. (More on that below…)

Addressing the Elephant in the Room: Why Am I Looking for a Job After 14 Years of Being a Business Owner?

Around three years ago, my business partner (who also happens to be my mother) decided to retire.

From that moment on, I took on the responsibility of leading the company alone.

Last November, I made the decision to close down the business. While my passion for training and leadership development burns as strongly as ever, my desire to be a solo business owner has waned.

Here’s why…

I’m a collaborator and a team player at heart. I thrive in environments where I can contribute to a larger vision with a team of like-minded individuals.

That’s why I’m so excited about this role. I’m excited to bring my skills, experience, and energy to a new role where I can contribute to your company’s growth and success.

I believe I can make a significant impact at Housecall Pro and help you continue to build a culture where your employees and Pros grow and succeed together.

I invite you to explore this page to learn more about me, my training philosophy, and to read reviews and testimonials from clients who have been through our programs.

Warm regards,

Josh Matthews-Morgan

How I Embody Housecall Pro’s Core Values

I’ve gathered from my research that Housecall Pro is mission-driven and puts a lot of emphasis on culture.

I’m sure you want to know how every new employee is going to fit into your culture.

So I took some time to explain how I live by your values:

We Help Pros Succeed

For over a decade, our training company was dedicated to empowering leaders with the tools and mindset to grow and scale. Helping others succeed has always been at the heart of my work.

Relentless Innovation

We developed our own proprietary coaching frameworks and training programs because we weren’t satisfied with the conventional approaches. I believe in pushing boundaries and creating solutions that drive real results.

People Matter

My entire career has been focused on helping people thrive—both professionally and personally. I believe great leadership is about lifting others up, leading with empathy, and fostering a culture of support and growth.

Do the Work

As a business owner for over 14 years, I know firsthand that success doesn’t come from shortcuts. I’m no stranger to rolling up my sleeves, putting in the effort, and doing what it takes to get the job done.

Enjoy the Journey

I believe success is a process, not just a destination. I celebrate small wins, embrace challenges as opportunities, and maintain a daily gratitude practice to stay present and motivated.

Be Accountable

At the end of every workday, I give myself a self-assessment to reflect on my day—analyzing what worked, what didn’t, and how I can improve. Accountability starts with holding yourself to a high standard, and that’s a principle I live by.

    Operate with Discipline and Rigor

I’ve trained leaders and teams on productivity, time management, and performance optimization—and I practice what I teach. I’ve also worked remotely for years so I know how to optimize my environment and daily habits for peak focus and output.

My Core Values & How They Drive My Impact

In addition to aligning with Housecall Pro’s values, I also have a set of personal core values that guide how I work, collaborate, and lead.

These principles will give you a small preview about how I could contribute to your company’s success.

*Click on each Core Value below to read more about what it means and how I put it into practice.

Be a champion of your team member’s / client’s best interest.

Whether working with internal teams or external clients, I believe in always acting in their best interest. I always want my team members to know that I have their back and I’m doing what’s best for them, not what’s best for me.

Trust is the foundation of any great partnership, and I prioritize long-term impact over short-term gains.

    Be Pragmatic, Not Dogmatic

Don’t get stuck on “your way of doing things.” Find the best solution to problems. Period.

I don’t cling to a single methodology or rigid process. Instead, I’m flexible. I adapt, experiment, and seek out the best solutions—no matter where they come from.

I have an ability to cut through complexity and find what works.

Only Use Strategies You’re Proud of That Reflect Your Values

Integrity is everything. I’m intentional about how I approach things.

I always ask myself: “Do my communication and practices reflect my highest values? Would I proudly defend each practice I engage in?”

Diagnose Deeply First. Then Offer a Solution

Don’t give surface-level solutions. Take time to understand the core of their problem first, then solve it.

Often, the magic is in the diagnosis. I look for the root causes of problems rather than the symptoms. This allows me to develop solutions that create lasting, meaningful change.

Go Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

I don’t believe in giving the bare minimum. I love delighting and surprising team members and clients.

I always try to show them how committed I am to their results by making sure they have everything they need to succeed.

    My Learning & Training Philosophy

I’m a deeply curious person who thrives on challenge and growth. I believe in continuous learning—but more importantly, I believe in deliberate learning.

Training should never be about learning something “cool” or simply gaining knowledge for its own sake. It should be purpose-driven, outcome-focused, and strategically aligned with business goals.

Every learning initiative should start with a clear objective—what problem are we solving? How does this training drive performance, leadership effectiveness, or business outcomes?

Learning and development should be treated like any other strategic initiative. We begin with a hypothesis about what kind of measurable impact the training will have. Then we prioritize the training initiatives based on impact. In other words, let’s roll out the highest impact training first that is going to have the most immediate results.

By taking a deliberate and results-oriented approach to learning, I help leaders and teams gain the right skills at the right time—empowering them to grow, lead, and succeed in meaningful ways.

Here’s One Unconventional Skill I Have That Gives Me an Edge in Leadership Development

This might seem like a weird skill to highlight, but I believe it’s a critical piece of effective learning and training:

    Copywriting

    Allow me to explain…

I’ve had a lot of training in direct-response copywriting. (I’ve even completed certification with one of the global leaders in marketing education, Digital Marketer.)

    Why does this matter?

    Everything is copywriting.

From the title of a workshop…

To the bullet points outlining key takeaways…

To the words you say during facilitation…

It’s all words on a page or words that are spoken.

If the ideas and words aren’t engaging, team members won’t be excited about consuming the training.

Without effective copywriting, even the most valuable training in the world won’t feel relevant to their lives.

Here’s an example to prove the point…

Years ago, I signed up for an expensive training program. The program had long, 2-hour videos with boring titles like “Sales”, “Operations”, “Marketing.”

No other information. No promises of what I would learn. No intrigue. Nothing.

It could’ve been the best training in the world and completely changed my life. But I didn’t watch it. I didn’t want to waste my time with a 2 hour video not knowing if I would learn anything new.

That’s why this skill is so helpful:

Good copywriting is about communicating the direct benefits of the training, creating intrigue and curiosity for the training material, and rewarding consumption.

Using this skill will help team members see why the learning matters, get excited to apply it, and stay engaged throughout the process.

Stories from the Trenches – A Deeper Look at my Work Experience

I know you have my access to my resume. Instead of rehashing what’s on there, I’ve taken the time to highlight some interesting facts and stories that didn’t make the cut.

    Learn Your Brain

I started a coaching & training company with my mother, Dr. Nita Matthews-Morgan over 14 years ago. Our client roster consisted primarily of small business owners and their management teams.

We also worked with companies ranging from the startup phase to mature 8-figure companies and their leadership teams.

In addition to our direct client work, we partnered with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government to design and facilitate workshops that enhanced leadership and managerial effectiveness.

These workshops incorporated behavioral assessments to help managers identify their personal “saboteurs.” We also provided them with simple, science-backed tools to become more positive and impactful leaders.

An example of my commitment to Relentless Innovation

Early in my career, I trained with the Proctor Gallagher Institute, earning certification as a Life Success Facilitator and Coach. We trained clients using their proprietary methods for the first 3-4 years of our business. While the program had powerful insights, I wasn’t satisfied with it.

We believed there were deeper answers to help people succeed in the fields of neuroscience, positive psychology, and behavioral science. This drive for innovation led us to adopt methods and strategies that provided lasting behavioral change.

We ended up creating our own proprietary frameworks for leadership development. Some of our signature methods include:

    • The 5 Drivers of High Performance – Our framework for helping leaders create high performance organizations. We believe every organization, team, and leader needs to tap into the power of these 5 key drivers.
    • The F.R.E.E. Method – A 4-step process that empowers people to eliminate up to 90% of their mindset blocks and “limiting beliefs” on their own
    • The P.E.A.K. Method – A system that uses principles from behavioral psychology to help people create habits and rituals that actually stick

    eStore Incubator

I started this job when our training company was in a period of transition. We were pivoting from doing live “bootcamps”–with training facilitated in person–to a purely online business model.

During this transition, I took on a remote job for one of the largest eCommerce training companies, eStore Incubator.

In this role, I served as the “right hand man” to the CEO, implementing all manner of projects to help the company grow.

I developed training and marketing materials in a variety of formats for the company, helped build funnels and write marketing emails, and basically did anything else the CEO asked of me.

I also collaborated with cross-functional teams within the company to identify their needs and develop custom solutions that advanced the strategic goals of the organization.

This role honed my ability to be adaptable in a fast-paced environment. I was forced to master productivity strategies so I could dedicate my time to growing both companies.

Ultimately, I chose to leave eStore Incubator so I could fully dedicate myself to growing Learn Your Brain.

A Bonus Story: Earning Trust in the Boardroom

This job didn’t make the cut for my resume, but it’s an interesting story.

After graduating college, I lived in Argentina for a year and taught business English in major multinational companies.

When my boss Eduardo hired me, he told me, “The only problem is you’re too damn young.”

I was fresh out of college with very little work experience. He worried that senior managers and executives wouldn’t take me seriously. They would think I was some young punk and run all over me.

By the middle of the year, I had gained his full trust.

When he expanded into a new company, he chose me to teach the top managers and executives–over some of his top teachers who had been with him much longer.

I tell this story to illustrate that even from a young age, I’ve done my best to bring the utmost professionalism to the job at hand.

“[Josh] taught English to adults at all levels, and proved to be a most able coach, capable of relating extremely well with every student or group of students he was entrusted with. At all times he was very conscientious, well-organized, reliable and, whenever needed, willing to cooperate beyond his duties.

I have no hesitation in recommending Josh, as I am sure he will be an asset to any organization he may join or person that may hire him. I feel very sorry that he left.”
